To meet the increasingly complex demands on filtration and separation media and the call for cost saving, the business unit SolidWEAVE of GKD – Gebr. Kufferath AG has collaborated the Fraunhofer Institut für Techno- und Wirtschaftsmathematik (ITWM) in Kaiserslautern to further develop the simulation software GeoDict and extend it to include the WeaveGeo tool. GeoDict is an integrated simulation environment for geometric modelling and property prediction and, with WeaveGeo, now includes virtual, i.e. artificially created meshes. The structure and behaviour of woven metal meshes are simulated under customer-specific conditions. The findings are used to develop new mesh constructions or to further optimise and customise existing ones. The mesh-specific findings that WeaveGeo supplies on, for example, porosity, pressure drop or bubble point are extremely close to reality. Comparisons between results from the simulations and those from classic experiments show a minimal deviation of less than four percent.
